ghost stories

“You’d best start believing in ghost stories, Miss Turner. Because now you’re in one”

Pirates of the Caribbean The Curse of the Black Pearl

What is it about ghost stories, that we, humans find so captivating and love so much? Is it a thrill? Mystery? Fear? Is it the part that allows us to tap into our primal fears of discovering the unknown, in a safe and “controlled” manner?

What if the line between dreams and reality, nightmares and the real world, would become a hazy fog? The one, that when you stretch your arm forward, you can no longer see?

Are you a type of a person that remembers their dreams, with so much detail, they become part of your reality?

Or, one of the lucky souls, that the second your brain waves switch to beta, you no longer are bothered by that dream, or nightmare you just had?

Well, whichever type you are, I am the first one. In some ways, I love the fact that I can access my alpha-theta waves, when it comes to beautiful dreams and visions, that became part of my “memory database”. But on the flip side, some nightmares are not on my wish list to remember, so to speak. Most of the time, they leave me with the feeling of anxiety, worry, apprehension, and unease. And some of those images, I can not unsee.

Perception of my reality, shifts and changes forever.

The same goes when it comes to dating. One bad experience, does not change you much, or how you view others, or the reality around you. But when you add, two, or three, or four, all of a sudden, things become more and more foggy, and before you know it, you are no longer capable of seeing your outstretched arm in front of you.

Your deepest fears, resurface, and leave you with just few choices, of what to do next. You can run. As fast and as far as you possibly can, without looking back, as that would put you in a very exposed and unsafe position, and the whole point of making a decision to run in a first place, was to avoid feeling or dealing with those emotions.

When you decide to run, and I have tried that before, you may find yourself with people, that bring zero substance to your being. Meaningless conversations, that don’t even come close to filling up your cup with any matter. Noises, that make your head spin. And a heart, other than broken, that becomes numb and empty by a minute.

You may decide to fight, and I have tried that route as well. You fight with God/the Universe/the Source, or whatever you believe in. You fight with people around you, that you care about, or strangers, but at the end of the day, it just fills your heart with anger, remorse, hate, and more pain. Your heart becomes hollow.

You have one other choice. You freeze up. Paralyzed in place, unable to move, or make any decision. You hope and pray, someone or something will make that decision for you, so the only thing left for you to do, would be dealing with the aftermath.

Whichever decision you make, or path you choose to take, will ultimately lead you to the same place. Each “journey” will last as long, or as brief, as you master the lesson, learn to face and deal with your negative emotions head on. In order to face them, you need to step out of your comfort zone and become vulnerable. Truly vulnerable. You lock your ego away and get rid of the key.

The only way to grow in this life, is through becoming weak, sensitive and exposed. To all of the pain, fears, sorrows, failures, beliefs, that once upon a time, you identified with.

For the time being, you live in a ghost story. The one you never thought existed. You never thought was real. You never thought would find you…

You open your eyes. You see the face of someone you’ve never seen before, nor met, nor recognize…
